The DWA provides opportunities to take part in the following activities in Poole Harbour and/or the surrounding Dorset countryside: WildfowlingThe DWA holds the Crown Foreshore Lease for Poole Harbour and, as such, is responsible for both control and promotion of the shooting activities thereon. Opportunities are available for both DWA members and non-members to shoot the harbour in season. DWA members benefit from lower priced access to wildfowling - depending upon your needs, it may be cheaper to join the DWA and buy a member's fowling permit than to pay for a non-member's fowling permit. Note that all permitted shooting areas of the harbour are accessible by boat only - no access by foot. Certain conditions must be met before our Wildfowling Officer can issue you with a fowling permit:
Fowling fees for non-members:
Rough ShootingThe DWA has a small number of Rough Shooting Syndicates. They are a varied mixture of rough, walk stand days and even some duck flighting. They are open to members only and waiting lists vary. On each syndicate you can expect to get involved in work parties – so there’s something to do all year round! Charges apply. ConservationScheduled working parties in Poole Harbour – often assisting the Dorset Wildlife Trust on Brownsea Island. Big Bore and Small Bore ShootingMonthly opportunities for small-bore at Canford School and full bore at East Holme. Charges apply. Pest ControlOpen to members only. Small charge to join the DWA Pest Shoot section. Section members are able, at invitation of local farms and estates, to assist with fox and vermin control as requested. Weekend and sometimes mid week opportunities. Meetings and Social ActivitiesMonthly General Meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month - but no meeting May and July. Other exceptions are December (Christmas Party) and February (AGM). Occasionally dates may vary e.g. clash with Panto in January, in which case info is given via newsletter. Meeting format - club business and notices, raffle and when arranged an entertaining or educational speaker. Open to all members. |
